It was super easy to say yes when I got the chance to join the Genesys Tech Hub team at their main office. After I handed over the student community I'd helped build, Goodness, the Program Manager, invited me to work with the team that oversees all of Genesys' student communities.

My role was Assistant Programs Manager and Community Advocate, and I was in charge of making sure student community leaders got the support they needed to grow their communities and create more awareness.

Building a Community for Everyone

We had this great idea to build a general community for all of Genesys. Before this, graduates from Genesys' popular programs like Learnable and Bezao went their separate ways after they finished. We wanted to bring everyone together, past, present, and future "Genies." It also helped bring together the three student communities we had. We created a new social handle for this general community called Genesys Foundations, which was all part of our internal branding plan.

My one year in this role was packed with major wins. We launched a huge program called UPSKILL, which was made possible by awesome partnerships with the Google Developers Group Owerri and STAD (She Thinks And Designs).

The first edition of UPSKILL was a huge success, with over 200 people completing the program. We even had a special seminar on "Positioning yourself for opportunities" to help them learn how to sell themselves.

Some of the success stories:

After the UPSKILL program, we kept the momentum going by running a 20-day Code and Design Challenge for both product design and front-end web development.
