I had the amazing chance to be an early contributor to the rise of student tech communities at my university with Genesys Tech Hub. I started as a student community lead, building the community from scratch and helping it grow to 300 students in just two years.

We kicked things off in September 2019 and had our first study jam the same month.

After that, we teamed up with the Genesys Tech Hub head office to host one of Hackmania events right in our university city. It was a big deal!

We went on to host even more study jams, partnered with different departmental and faculty associations to drive more awareness to students and grow the community.

A major moment for us was when the Genesys team came to our campus in 2020, right before COVID hit, to host a session on remote work culture. It was a great learning experience for all the students.

Another major highlight was working with other student community leads and the main office team to plan and host the Design Digital Week. We even had the legendary Chris Do join us!

For my two years as a student community lead, I was the behind-the-scenes guy, making sure all the planning, operations, and activities went smoothly. My colleague Chiwendu was the master of marketing and branding. Together, we grew the community to 300 student members and got 193 organic followers on X.

In December 2021, we passed the torch to two core team members to lead the charge, one of whom later became the student community lead of both Microsoft Student Community and Google Developer Student Club and the other become the Community Lead of Paxful Student Community introducing cryptocurrency enlightenment to the students.
